North Korea releases photo of missile test taken from space, what is the message
North Korea's state media have released photos saying the biggest missile test has been conducted since 2017.
Photos taken from space show parts of the Korean Peninsula and surrounding areas. North Korea says the ballistic missile is a medium-range Hwasong-12.
South Korea and Japan say the missile landed in the Sea of Japan after reaching an altitude of 2,000 kilometers. Both countries have condemned the test. This is North Korea's seventh test this month.
Photos of the missile test were released by the state-run KCNA news agency. It is being said that a camera was fitted in the missile itself and the same camera has sent pictures. Two photos are from the test and the rest are from the middle of the photos which are taken from above.
Officials in Japan and South Korea have estimated that the missile flew up to 800 kilometers in 30 minutes. The United Nations has imposed severe sanctions on North Korea over ballistic missile and nuclear weapons testing, and there is also a provision for an economic embargo.
Kim Jong Un did not exist.
According to reuters news agency, a senior US official has asked North Korea for direct talks on its unconditional nuclear and missile programs. "We believe that the start of a serious dialogue is absolutely fair and correct," the official said, adding that the U.S. had earlier asked North Korea to refrain from such destabilizing activities from the front.
The announcement of missile tests in North Korea is usually made by the state media there the next day. On Monday, KCNA said the missile's test was successful. It is being said that the ruler kim jong un was not present on the occasion.
According to the North Korean news agency, the test was carried out at a higher altitude from the northwestern region towards the East Korean Sea. KCNA has said the test is for protection from neighbouring countries.
North Korean analyst Ankit Panda has said that Kim Jong-un was not present on the occasion. The state media said about the test that the aim was to prove that the missile system worked as it should have done. KCNA said the test was of medium-range Hwasong-12. This is the first time a nuclear-capable missile has been tested since 2017.
A total of six tests were conducted that year, including two over the Japanese island of Hokkaido. People living here started getting electronic alerts. North Korea had previously said that Hwasong-12 was capable of carrying large nuclear weapons.
